4-27 Severe Event

For right now I feel like an area between Stillwater and Perry is going to be a pretty good spot to be today. As we get nearer to time for initiation I will hopefully be able to narrow things down a little bit. Short on time this morning because I need to get some things done so I can sneak out of here at least an hour early and head west. Looks like it will be a very interesting day.

State Vegetable of Oklahoma?

Today my pride and confidence in the state of Oklahoma took yet another hit when the state legislature named the watermelon the state vegetable of Oklahoma. All I can say is WTF?! Since when is a watermelon a vegetable? They taste good, they're sweet, and kids like them. Sounds like a fruit to me. Let's see what wikipedia has to say about watermelons....

watermelon - Citrullus lanatus, Family Cucurbitaceae) is a fruit and plant of a vine-like (climber and trailer) herb originally from southern Africa and one of the most common type of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo, which has a thick rind (exocarp) and fleshy center (mesocarp and exocarp); pepos are derived from an inferior ovary and are characteristic of the Cucurbitaceae. The watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon (although not in the genus Cucumis), has a smooth exterior rind (green and yellow) and a juicy, sweet, usually red or yellow, but sometimes orange, interior flesh. The flesh consists of highly developed placental tissue within the fruit. The former name Citrullus vulgaris (vulgaris meaning "common" — Shosteck, 1974), is now a synonym of the accepted scientific name for watermelon

I feel like I would be better off living in Alabama right now.

Seymour, TX Tornado

I captured a couple of radar images during the storm near Seymour, TX yesterday. Storm reports confirm that spotters reported a large tornado on the ground near the same time I captured these images.
Captured around 2:30

Radar at 2:40

Look Out WI & MN

Wisconsin and Minnesota just got wiped off the face of the earth! Ha! Thought this was an interesting graphic. I guess they did tornado warning tests all across both states according to the text. I didn't know they went to the extent of updating the national watch/warning map for a test. Good news, it works!

Rain At Sunset

We got a little shower in south Tulsa today around sunset. Not the most exciting thing in the world but I was able to get a few pics of some heavy rain falling.

Local Forecasts

I figure since Steve is unable to post this type of entry on his blog for a few more days, I might as well put it on mine. It appears that either Fox23 knows something everyone else doesn't or they are just very slow to update their forecast. Don't have much time to give my input at this time but I will say I don't think it will be close enough to home for me to make the event due to work.

Fun In The Mud

A friend and I went out to Keystone Lake for a while last night. While we were there I figured I would try out the four wheel drive in the new truck. We headed down below the dam to the atv trails and had a little fun. These trails are very loose sand which concerned me due to a previous incident a few years ago involving sand. The Dakota didn't have any problems with it though. After cruising around in the dry stuff, I decided to try a few mud holes out. I am thankful that I took them with a little speed because I probably would have buried it in one of them if I had been going a couple mph slower. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me but I snapped a shot of the truck this morning while it was still muddy.
