Ahh...College football kicked off tonight. For me that meant hanging out with a few good friends drinking some beer and firing up the ole' grill. We watched the games that ESPN & ESPN2 had to offer and I was satisfied until I saw hightlights from the Iowa State game that went into triple overtime. I wish I could have seen that game since Iowa State is in our conference (Big 12).
College football kick-off weekend will only continue to get better. These are the reasons for my statement:
1. Tomorrow I will spend the day at Keystone Lake instead of working.
2. Saturday I will be in Stillwater, OK at the Oklahoma State football game.
3. I'll be at the lake Sunday and Monday.
4. I'll be golfing all day on Tuesday.
5. I DON'T HAVE TO WORK FOR 5 DAYS!
If I remember to take a camera to the above events I will be sure to post a few of the highlights of my "College Football Kick-off".
An added note of interest...The all request Howard Stern Weekend kicks off tomorrow at 2:00 on top of everything else. The uncensored tapes will finally be played.
This blog consists mainly of weather related posts and recent events in my life. I am a storm chaser for KTUL Channel 8 in Tulsa, OK. I will regularly recap my chase experiences as well as post forecasts from time-to-time.

Bowling
Last night marked the final night for our bowling league. During the 14 weeks we all managed to buy our own balls, change our bowling style, and yet none of us got much better. I was only able to get a video of Jerry uploaded to youtube before they shut down for maintenance. I'll put the rest up tomorrow.

8-15-06
Steve Miller and I had a chance to get out and shoot some lightning as a storm came through Jenks and south Tulsa. It didn't turn out to bad considering I was using Steve's Kodak point and shoot in video mode.
Better Late Than Never
It's been a busy week and I'm just getting around to posting some pics from Saturday. I always forget something when I go to the lake and this time it was my camera. I took these pics with Steve's camera. We didn't capture half of the fun that day. There were a few ladies that liked beads on the beach.

Steve and Matt enjoying a cold one at House Boat Island.

Thunderstorm tower going up to the south of us.

This was another cell that went south of us about 2 hours later.

The Weekend is Finally Here
Not much happening so far this weekend. I've had a chance to get some much needed r&r. I'm about to head over to Steve's. Looks like we should have a fun afternoon/evening on the boat. We'll be headed to Keystone Lake for some beers and good times. Sounds like we'll be hanging out at House Boat Island for the day. I'll be taking my camera so hopefully I'll have some good pics to post later in the weekend. The only thing that worries me about today is that the boat will still be getting serviced. The guys at Pier 51 Marina should have it done this afternoon though. Well, I'm off to the lake. I'll post a few good pics tomorrow when the hangover goes away.

God It's Hot!!
Today's high temp was 105 degrees. This has been a common recurrence here in Tulsa for the past few weeks. There have been threats of rolling blackouts from PSO due to the amount of power usage and that they had two facilities that were down due to faulty equipment.Tonight I got home at 10:55 after having a few drinks with Steve Miller at one of our local bars. The temps above are about ten minutes later. The reading at my apartment at 11:00 was 91 degrees. We have one small chance at temps in the mid 90's and that is if the cold front to our north moves a little farther south than currently predicted. My wishful thinking is that it will sag a little farther than the Kansas border and give us a little rain and cooler air. I'll be crossing my fingers when I look at the latest SPC Convective Outlook tomorrow. Meanwhile I'll be hanging out sweating my nuts off.

It's Great to be a Cowboy

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma starting quarterback Rhett Bomar was kicked off the team Wednesday after an investigation revealed he broke NCAA rules through his employment at a local business, according to a television report.
Oklahoma confirmed that two players had been dismissed by the team but did not identify them. The school said in a statement that the players violated NCAA rules by working at a private business and taking ``payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked.''
Oklahoma City television station KWTV reported that Bomar, who set an Oklahoma freshman record with 2,018 passing yards after taking over as the Sooners' starter in the second game last season, was one of the two players who had been permanently dismissed. Oklahoma City television station KOCO reported that Bomar's roommate, offensive lineman J.D. Quinn, was the second player.
Kenny Mossman, associate athletic director for communications at OU, confirmed two players were dismissed but did not identify them. Phone messages left with Bomar's father, Jerry Bomar, weren't immediately returned.
``We spend a considerable amount of time addressing our players regarding their personal conduct and the NCAA rules,'' head coach Bob Stoops said in a statement. ``They know exactly what we expect from them. Ultimately, they have to make right decisions. The same holds true for our boosters. When they do not, the consequences are serious, and we will not tolerate this behavior.
``Our team and university actions are necessary because of the intentional participation and knowledge of the student athletes in these violations,'' Stoops said.
Players were not allowed to talk to the media after an afternoon meeting at the football complex. Security guards watched as players, among them Adrian Peterson and Paul Thompson, walked from campus football offices to a team dinner.
The dismissed players apparently worked for a Norman-based car dealership, although Jeff Adkins, an attorney for that dealership's current owner, David Hudiburg, said that was not possible to confirm whether Bomar or Quinn worked at the dealership without previous company records, which Hudiburg _ who took over management of the dealership in April _ does not own.
``We do believe they probably did (work at the dealership),'' Adkins said. ``We have people who tell us they did.''
